There has been a golf course at Carnalea for over 100 years. It was in 1892 that the oldest golf club in Ireland, Royal Belfast, moved from its original site at Kinnegar to the beautiful seaside setting of Carnalea, west of Bangor, with its picturesque views over Belfast Lough and the County Antrim hills that lie beyond. With the subsequent move of Royal Belfast to Craigavad in 1926 and the acquisition of the land by the local District Council, Carnalea became Ireland's first municipal golf club in 1927.
It is an 18 hole course divided into two separate nine holes by the Bangor to Belfast railway line and covers an area of approximately 88 acres. The longest par 4 on the course is actually the closing hole - the tee shot is blind with a drive down the right hand side of the fairway providing the best chance of reaching the green in two. The approach shot with the clubhouse in sight is to a shallow green with a severe left to right slope.
Restrictions: No play Sat and Sun. Please contact club in advance to make your booking, all tee times are subject to availability.
