Huddersfield Golf Club (Fixby) was founded in 1891 and quickly became established as one of the premier Championship courses in the north of England.
The course was originally laid out by Herbert Fowler and has played host to many leading events including the Yorkshire Mens and the British Ladies Amateur Strokeplay Championships, as well as hosting the Lawrence Batley Seniors on the PGA European Seniors Tour for over a decade.
The course is designed in two loops of nine holes over undulating parkland/moorland terrain with excellent panoramic views. The quality of the turf is such that Gary Player remarked after his second visit to the club that he would like to take Fixby fairways around the world with him.
The golfing test is thorough but enjoyable with perhaps the best remembered holes being the par 5 fifth, the short 8th and the 16th, a formidable two shotter. Recent improvements include the redesign of all 18 greens under USGA sand based specification which will ensure the high standard of course presentation is continued. T
The 18th century grade 2 listed Clubhouse itself provides a gracious setting for post golf refreshments with an excellent restaurant, three bars, plus a superb dining hall capable of accommodating over 120 guests.
