This parkland course is laid out within the walled demesne of the former palace of the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh. The club with its entrance and clubhouse almost in the centre of the ancient cathedral City of Armagh enjoys a very unique location. The thousands of trees enhance the beauty of the grounds and provide an attractive backdrop for the eighteenth century primates palace and a massive limestone obelisk sited on the highest point of the course.
There are surprisingly few bunkers, none after the tenth and the problems presented to golfers are created by the subtle undulations on the fairway and the strategically placed trees which put a premium on tee shot accuracy. Over the years the course has undergone continuous improvement and presents notable challenges to the golfer at the first, a long par four, the unusual par three quarry hole and perhaps best of all the downhill par three eleventh. The 16th, 17th and 18th are tight finishing holes capable of undoing any good scoring achieved earlier in the round.
