The Sitwell Park Golf Club was founded in 1913 and Dr. Alistair Mackenzie, the renowned Scottish architect, who went on to design Augusta National had more than a hand in the creation of the layout.
The first twelve holes are where a score is made and the golfer must then negotiate the demanding final third of the course without too much misfortune. There are a brace of treacherous par 4's at 15 and 16 which can make or break a round.
In particular, the fifteenth demands steely nerve and concentration as the long second shot is played to an elevated green - one extra club is obligatory.
A good finishing hole keeps the visitor on his toes until the very last and a warm welcome is always assured in the friendly clubhouse.
