Cork Golf Club the Premium Members Parkland Course in Ireland
23 January 2018
Cork Golf Club is located at Little Island close to Cork City. This championship golf course is routed through exceptional golfing terrain incorporating old limestone quarries and the inner reaches of Cork Harbour. With Open Fairways the more you play the more you save.....
Over the years this Alister Mackenzie (of Augusta fame) designed course has matured to become one of the finest inland courses in Ireland. Founded in 1888, it is no wonder then that Cork Golf Club (or Little Island as it is sometimes known) has hosted many Amateur and Professional Championships including the Irish Close Championships and Irish Open. On the shores of Lough Mahon, Mackenzie's genius is evident throughout, with accuracy off the tee vital and imagination and precision with the irons equally crucial.
This is well illustrated at the 442 yard 4th, one of the river holes, where the tee shot must carry 180 yards of shoreline to find the right of the fairway. This leaves a view of the slightly elevated, well-protected green and the shot can be a 2 iron or a wedge, depending upon the wind. At Cork you won't have a finer day's sport, nor see a better course so impeccably presented.
